BSMS - Blook Sample Management System

Project Overview:

  • Case Study - Emergency Clinical Triage Application

  • March 2021 to September 2021

Requirement Summary

The goal was to design a user-friendly emergency clinical triage application to streamline the process of patient assessment and prioritization in emergency rooms. The application needed to be intuitive for medical staff, ensuring quick and accurate triage decisions.

Research and Analysis

  1. User Interviews: Conducted interviews with emergency room nurses, doctors, and administrative staff to understand their pain points and requirements.
  2. Competitive Analysis: Analyzed existing triage systems to identify strengths and weaknesses.
  3. User Personas: Created personas representing different user types, such as nurses, doctors, and patients.

Design Process

  1. Wireframing: Developed low-fidelity wireframes to outline the basic structure and flow of the application.
  2. Prototyping: Created interactive prototypes using tools like Figma to visualize the user journey and gather feedback.
  3. Usability Testing: Conducted multiple rounds of usability testing with real users to identify and fix usability issues.

Key Features

  1. Intuitive Dashboard: A clean and organized dashboard displaying patient information, vital signs, and triage status.
  2. Quick Triage Form: A simplified form for entering patient symptoms and vital signs, with auto-suggestions based on common conditions.
  3. Priority Alerts: Real-time alerts for high-priority cases, ensuring immediate attention.
  4. Patient Tracking: A system to track patient progress and update their status as they move through different stages of care.

Design Solutions

  1. Color Coding: Used color coding to indicate the severity of cases, making it easy for staff to prioritize at a glance.
  2. Accessibility: Ensured the application was accessible to all users, including those with disabilities, by following WCAG guidelines.
  3. Responsive Design: Designed the application to be responsive, ensuring it works seamlessly on tablets and desktops used in emergency rooms.

Outcome

The final design was well-received by the medical staff, who reported improved efficiency and accuracy in the triage process. The application reduced the time taken for initial patient assessment and helped prioritize critical cases more effectively.
